What to bring
During a Huachuma ceremony/walk in the sacred valley you may experience all four seasons in a day, from sunny & hot to rainy, windy & cold. We recommend bringing several different layers to take off & put on as the weather shifts. We recommend:
Good hiking shoes/boots, a rain/wind proof jacket, sun hat & small backpack.
Bringing at least 1-1.5L of fresh drinking water and a small snack e.g. fruit, nuts, sandwich etc.
Sunscreen & insect repellent.
Diet:
We advise following the below dietary guidelines for at least three days prior to the ceremony (ideally one week).
Low sugar.
Avoid processed and fried foods.
Try to drink at least 1.5L of water per day.
Avoid high caffeine intake.
Eat foods rich in calcium.
Do not drink alcohol or consume hard or soft drugs.
Medical Advice:
As our walks take place at high altitude we recommend arriving in Cusco a few days early in order to fully acclimate.
It is very important that you let us know any and all existing medical conditions regarding both your physical & mental health prior to the ceremony.
It is also crucial to inform us of any prescription or over the counter medications you are or have been taking recently.
If you have any concerns regarding e.g. health issues related to drinking Huachuma, high altitude hikes or any medication interactions, please consult your general health practitioner or a health professional.
